Hololive's Kazama Iroha Prioritizes Health Amid Voice Issues
VTuber girl group Hololive's secret society holoX member, Kazama Iroha (風真いろは), announced on December 9 that she will continue her activities, prioritizing her health after experiencing voice issues. Following a medical examination and discussions about her condition, Iroha emphasized that she will only engage in activities within her capacity without overexerting herself. “While I’ve heard many voices suggesting I should take a break, I appreciate the understanding of my desire to keep going, and the company is willing to adjust my work accordingly. Moving forward, my health will be my top priority, and I would be very happy to receive warm support and attention from everyone,” she stated.
On November 30, during her three-year anniversary livestream, Iroha revealed that she has been suffering from "psychogenic aphonia" (心因性失声症). This condition is a psychological symptom triggered by stress and pressure, where individuals can suddenly lose their voice or experience hoarseness despite no apparent issues with their vocal cords or muscles. During her anniversary stream, Iroha could only communicate by writing, expressing uncertainty about when her voice would return. To avoid making her fans feel lonely, she decided to push through and broadcast using alternative methods.
Interestingly, just a day before her announcement, it was reported that fellow holoX member, Shachimu Chloé, would be graduating at the end of January. Iroha clarified that her health issues are unrelated to Chloé's graduation but admitted feeling "very lonely" about it. "I blame everything on my own weakness and inability to cope," she confessed.
Understanding Psychogenic Aphonia
Psychogenic aphonia is a condition that many may not be familiar with, yet it highlights the significant impact of mental health on physical well-being. Iroha’s experience sheds light on how mental strain can manifest in unexpected ways, affecting even those in the public eye. It's essential for fans and followers to recognize that mental health struggles are valid and can affect anyone, regardless of their circumstances.
Future Activities and Adjustments
Due to her ongoing voice issues, the originally scheduled "holoX Review Live Compilation" and "Secret Society holoX Three-Year Anniversary 3D Concert" planned for December 2 have been postponed. Iroha's commitment to her fans remains strong, and she is determined to return to her full capacity when her health allows. The company has expressed support in finding a suitable way for her to engage with fans while managing her health.
Community Support and Awareness
As Iroha navigates this challenging time, it’s crucial for the community to come together in support. Fans can play a significant role by respecting her need for space and understanding her situation. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, especially in high-pressure environments like the entertainment industry. Support from fans can make a world of difference, fostering a positive environment for recovery.
We will continue to monitor updates regarding Iroha's health and activities as she prioritizes her well-being. The Hololive community is encouraged to share their messages of support, showing that they are with her every step of the way.
